On my Windows 8.1, the Cisco VPN Client Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapter error bugged me for a long time. But then found an easy solution which worked perfectly and allowed me to successfully work with VPN without any connectivity issues.
- Open ‘services.msc’ from the Run prompt.
Right click on the ‘Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service’ and click on ‘Stop’.
Now right click on the ‘Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service’ and click on ‘Stop’.
Go back to ‘Cisco System, Inc. VPN Service’ and ‘Start’ it.
Launch the Cisco VPN Client again and connect. It will connect with no issues 🙂
